Description
Looking for a way to incorporate writing in your math classroom? Struggling to come up with open-ended prompts that fit specifically to your TEKS? Panicked about STAAR 2.0 writing...in MATH?! Look no further! We all know that if a student can write and talk about their learning, it’ll deepen their understanding of that topic as well as give you a glimpse into their thinking processes.
Included in this document are 34 individual writing prompts focused specifically on extending whole number and operations (TEKS 5.3ABCK, 5.4BEF) that can be used in a variety of ways:
-Exit tickets
-Bell ringer quick writes
-Check for Understanding
-Formative Assessment
Every standard has a combination of would you rather questions, fill in the blank vocabulary prompts, short response questions, and constructed responses with a “griddable” similar to what they will see on STAAR 2.0! Questions are created keeping the type of math writing students will be expected to do on STAAR 2.0 in mind. These prompts by standard will facilitate the process of incorporating writing in your math class!
By using these in you classroom you’ll also have a record of every child’s writing progress, making documentation for any special populations a little easier and creating student-specific data for every SE to use in parent-teacher conferences. Overall, using these prompts will make your life easier - not creating your own prompts, scrambling to find documentation, or trying to find new STAAR writing prompts to match the upcoming assessment. These will deepen your students understanding of every topic - especially if they are used as an independent quick write to facilitate small group discussions later!
Included in this document are 2 different print options - one option is to have all prompt for a particular SE on one page; the other is to have multiples of the same prompt to simplify the printing process to put in journals!
