Why Questions Bundle | Teaching Students to Answer WHY Questions

Many students can understand a situation but struggle with how to verbally answer WHY questions. This bundle provides a clear, structured system for teaching students how to produce answers using simple sentence frameworks that gradually increase in complexity.

This Why Questions Bundle for speech therapy walks students through a step-by-step progression of answering WHY questions using three sentence structures:

to + action
so
because (coming soon)

These structures help students develop inferencing skills, cause-and-effect reasoning, and complex sentence production.

This resource is ideal for speech therapy, special education classrooms, language intervention, and English language learners.

Students practice WH questions and inferencing through visual supports, task cards, structured practice, and worksheets, helping them move from explicit teaching → guided practice → independent answers.

What This Bundle Teaches

This bundle includes three complete WHY question resources that progressively build language skills.

Part 1: Answering WHY Questions Using “to + action”

This is the most basic and concrete way to answer WHY questions.

Example:
Why do we go in our bed?
To sleep.

Students learn to explain the purpose of actions, making it a great starting point for early inferencing and complex sentence development.

Part 2: Answering WHY Questions Using “so”

Students learn to use "so" to state the good/positive result of an action.

Example:
Why do we use an umbrella?
So we stay dry.

This stage helps students practice inferencing and reasoning while producing longer, more complete answers.

Part 3: Answering WHY Questions Using “because”

Students learn to use "because" to state what is already happening in order to give a reason.

Example:
Why do we use a tissue?
Because our nose is runny.

Students learn to produce fully developed explanations and complex sentences using because.
