Description
This UNIT includes activities to strengthen students skills in various activities related to reading, language arts, and math using a winter theme. The activities promote communication and collaboration of students as they engage in center activities. Some pages in this unit can be used as whole group practice or independent assessment. Included you will find:
- TWO LEVELED WINTER INDEPENDENT READING BOOKS - Students will read a short book about winter. One is a repetitious book for beginning readers. Students can use the pictures as a strategy to help them read unfamiliar words. Black and white and color versions have been provided for each book.
- GINGERBREAD GLYPH-- Students will design a gingerbread man based on the criteria given. Then students will exchange papers to analyze a classmates glyph.
- SYLLABLES - Students will participate in 5 syllables activities. These activities can be completed independently or at centers. They include: one syllable sort, one syllable cut and paste worksheet, one syllable interactive page, and two additional syllables worksheets in color and in black and white.
- SIGHT WORDS - Students will play two sight word games. The first game is a roll the dice sight word game. The second is a spin the wheel sight word game. The games can be played independently or with a partner.
- PUNCTUATION MARKS- Students will match sentences with the correct punctuation hat for one activity. There is also a worksheet for independent punctuation practice.
- SENTENCE SCRAMBLE - Students will unscramble word cards to create four sentences. This activity is great for independent center practice.
- WINTER WORD CARDS - 18 Winter time word cards are provided in color. These cards can be put in a writing center to promote accurate spelling and creativity.
- LETTER WRITING - Students can write to Santa, an Elf, or anyone they choose to using three letter writing pages with a Santa hat theme.
- REINDEER NUMBER CARDS - Reindeer number cards that show the numbers from 1 -10 and matching pictures from are provided. Students can use the number cards as a matching game. There is also a reindeer counting work mat for students to show what they know. The cards can also be used as number card wall references for students.
- GINGERBREAD MAN COUNTING BY 5 CARDS - There are 20 gingerbread men holding cards counting by 5’s to 100. There are 3 gingerbread men counting work mats provided that go with the cards. On the mats, the students will record what they know about counting by 5’s, and even and odd.
- EVEN AND ODD CARDS - An even and odd card for centers has been included. Students can use the reindeer or gingerbread man cards to sort by even and odd.
- MATH WORKSHEETS - Students can practice their math skills with a pattern worksheet and an addition worksheet. Both pages are in color, so you may choose to laminate them and use as center activities.
- WORD PROBLEMS - Students will practice solving single digit addition and subtraction word problems with 10 winter themed questions.
