Description

This Winter Math Project: Build an Ice Skating Rink gets students practicing a wide variety of key math skills while working their way through some fun real-world, winter-themed scenarios. Students will have a blast planning the details of their pop-up ice skating rink! They must rent the land, buy an ice rink, set the schedule, order hot cocoa supplies, and much more!

There are two differentiated versions of this project included: basic and advanced. While most activities are the same, the main difference is that the advanced version includes decimals while the basic version sticks to whole numbers. The basic version is ideal for 4th grade, while the advanced version is ideal for 5th/6th grade.

Skills covered:

• Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

• Decimals and decimal operations (only in the advanced version)

• Fractions

• Elapsed time

• Perimeter and area

• Input/output tables

• Graphing

This resource includes options for PRINT and DIGITAL (Google Slides).

Included with this Ice Skating Rink Math Project:

• Instructions for use

• Basic project packet (31 pages of math activities)

• Advanced project packet (31 pages of math activities)

• Answer keys (for problems that have only one possible answer)

Please note: This packet is meant to be used in its entirety over multiple days. Students will get the most benefit from seeing how math is used across a variety of real-world scenarios!
