Are you looking for a way to help your students practice adding or multiplying with decimals that is engaging, creative, and just plain fun? Perfect for December, January, February, or the winter months, this Gingerbread math craftivity gives students an exciting way to practice adding and multiplying with decimals (5.NBT.B.7)

The task:

Chocolate Chip and Joanna Gumdrop help gingerbread families fix up their gingerbread houses to be the house they always dreamed of. The Gingy family has asked for the Gumdrops help, but they have a strict budget of $1,000 that must be followed. Can you build the house of their dreams all while staying in budget?

Includes:

  • Teacher directions
  • Student handouts with all directions
  • Gingerbread writing paper to add process writing, narrative writing, or descriptive writing to the project
  • Newly revised version that allows students to BUILD their home, or older version that requires students to draw their home.

My 5th graders LOVED this project, even the ones who normally refuses to color and decorate things. They loved how interactive and engaging it was. The print outs were the icing on the gingerbread house, the kids loved putting together their design! Highly recommend.
