READING TASK CARDS:

  • Color
  • Black and White: Great for printing on Astrobright paper to save on ink!

1. SYLLABLES:

  • The student states the word out loud. Encourage the student to clap or snap the number of syllables in the word. The student circles the number of syllables.

3. ENDING SOUNDS:

  • The student states the picture out loud, identifies the ending sound, and then writes the letter that makes that sound.

4. SIGHT WORD SENTENCES:

  • The student reads the sentence made up of sight words. Each sentence has one focused sight word. The focused sight word is underlined. The student reads the sentence and then traces the sight word. Each box helps determine if a letter is tall, short, or if the letter has a tail.

5. BEGINNING SOUNDS PUZZLES:

  • The student identifies beginning sounds. The student matches the beginning sound to the letter.

6. CVC WORD PUZZLES:

  • Each puzzle has a CVC picture and written word. The student practices reading CVC word patterns and finds the picture to match it.

7. BLENDS PUZZLE

  • Each puzzle contains 3 puzzle pieces. Each puzzle has two letter blends at the top and two pictures to match the blend sound. The student must match the pictures to the correct blend.

8. ABC LETTER ORDER:

  • Each task card has 3 letters and 1 missing letter. The student must think about the letter that comes next in the alphabet. The student writes the missing letter on the mitten. There are two problems per task card.

9. CVC WORDS:

  • Each task card has a CVC picture inside a snow globe. The student states the word out loud and listens to the sounds heard. The student writes each letter inside the boxes to spell a CVC word.

10. SECRET CODE:

  • Each task card has a set of pictures. The student must write the beginning sound of each picture. The letters will spell a sight word.
  • Sight Words Included: all, an, and, at, can, come, go, had, have, he, here, if, in, is, it, like, look, me, my, of, on, said, see, she, the, to, up, was, we, went, you

These winter math activities focus on a variety of math skills in 10 different sets of math task cards! Provide your students with multiple way for students to practice number recognition, counting tally marks, addition in a ten frame, subtraction in a part-part-whole, identifying 2D shapes, and practice their skip counting with picture puzzles. These winter math task cards are easy to incorporate into January math centers, small groups, or used as an early finisher activity during the month of January. These winter math activities make a great hands-on activity to practice or review skills!

MATH TASK CARDS:

  • Color
  • Black and White: Great for printing on Astrobright paper to save on ink!

1. FIND IT:

  • Each task card has a focused picture for students to look for. The student must search for the picture scattered amongst the other winter pictures. The number at the top represents how many pictures the student needs to search for. Use transparent bingo chips to find and cover the picture or use a dry erase marker to circle the picture found.

2. TALLY MARKS:

  • The student counts the number of snowmen tally marks. The student circles the number to match it.

3. CLIP IT:

  • The student counts the number of snowballs inside the ten frame. The student places a clip on the number to match the picture quantity. This helps support one-to-one correspondence and builds their number sense within a ten frame.

4. ADDITION TEN FRAME:

  • The student looks at the two groups placed inside the ten frame. The student counts how many pictures represent each group and writes it down as the addend in the number sentence. Then the student counts how many pictures there are in all and writes the sum.

5. SUBTRACTION PART-PART-WHOLE:

  • The student will use the mittens to help them find the missing part. The student identifies the whole number which represents the total number of mittens. Then the student will cross off the known part on the mittens. The remaining mittens is the unknown part. The student writes the number in the blank part in the PPW.

7. ONE MORE ONE LESS:

  • The student practices one more and one less. The student looks at the number in the middle and thinks about the numbers that come before and after it. The student writes the numbers inside the box.

8. NUMBER PUZZLES:

  • The student practices number recognition, number words, and counting. The student must match the number and number word to the picture quantity.

9. SKIP COUNTING PICTURE PUZZLES:

  • The student practices counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. Cut each puzzle on the lines for the students to rebuild the puzzle. The student places the numbers in order while using the pictures to support their skip counting skills. I made this specific set a full page option as well.

10. 2D SHAPES CLIP IT:

  • The student counts the number of sides in the 2D shape and then places a clip on the number to match the number of sides.

11. 2D SHAPE PUZZLES:

  • The student puts together a 3 piece puzzle based on shapes. The student must identify the shapes and shape name to place the puzzles together.
