Description
Looking to code without a device? Celebrate the Hour of Code and Computer Science Education Week with this winter UNPLUGGED coding activity. No device is needed, screen-free, which makes this great for an easy center. Students will create an algorithm on paper and code the steps to building a snowman.
You can teach the basics of computer science, whether you have computers in your classroom or not. These are ready to go, no prep - just print & teach!
This unplugged coding activity can be used for multiple grade levels. It is easy to differentiate between the 3 different leveled sheets (easy, moderate, and difficult). As students are comfortable, provide them with the next level sheet.
Included in this winter unplugged coding activity:
- 10 Activity Sheets
- Easy maze - 3 versions
- Moderate maze - 3 versions - includes bugs
- Difficult maze - 3 versions - includes loops & bugs

How I use This In My Classroom:
- I use this activity across various grade levels K-5. I begin by reviewing coding vocabulary terms and making sure students understand the concepts to code.
- I provide the entire class with a starting sheet, as students complete it correctly, they can move up to moderate and difficult sheets. Students in upper grade levels begin with the more advanced sheets.
- I also create stations by putting the sheets into dry erase pockets! Students use expo markers to record their code & erase for the next student.
