Wolves - Guided Inquiry Unit - Reading and Research

This complete Wolf Unit contains everything you need to complete this engaging guided inquiry based unit.

This activity gives students clear background information about wolves, and allows them to research aspects of these creatures that they are most interested in. Research shows that inquiry based learning strongly increases engagement, as students are developing answers to their own questions. It develops higher level thinking skills in ways that traditional learning methods such as comprehension questions are unable to replicate.

In this activity, small groups of students will be presented with a variety of information, pictures, and props relating to wolves. Students are asked to examine the resources, brainstorm the things they notice and wonder about, and record them on the included sheet. They must also pull out some key facts they uncover in their examinations.

When students are done examining the resources, they are asked to share their findings with the class. Afterwards, they can use the information and wonderings they have gathered to develop an inquiry question for further research. A research gathering page has been included, along with a list of great websites with information about wolves.

This 19 page package contains the following:

Wolf Guided Inquiry Unit Information: Teacher information on how to complete the guided inquiry unit is included.
