This rubric is based on the skills word problem solving skills learned in the Singapore Math Model Drawing method (one of the best ways to teach kids how to solve word problems). This is meant for one challenging word problem. The students’ overall work can be assessed instead of just whether or not they get the correct answer. It Is flexible enough to let any student have some success solving difficult problems. It can also be a good guide to help teachers correct student thinking while solving complex word problems.
