I am so excited to share my first photo cubes set with you! My students LOVE them! Put it in a photo cube, and they'll want to learn it!! I love using photo cubes in my classroom! They're fun and engaging, and well, students just love them!
I use these for my “Word Problem of the Day," so there are 180 word problems included for each day of the school year. The word problems are based on first grade CCSS 1.OA.1 and target adding and subtracting numbers to 20 by adding, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing with unknowns in all positions. They are also very practical for intervention groups and special learners working below grade level. I use them in my special education class.
Every morning one of my students gets chosen to either roll the cube or catch the cube. My students then complete the word problem in their math journal. This is a composition book. If the student catches the cube, their fingers will land on two different word problems. They get to choose the word problem of the two that we do! I then quickly remove that problem and insert a new one for the next morning. Students always have 6 daily problems to choose from.
Another option is to use them in a center. Students can take turns rolling the cube and completing the problems or even race to complete problems! If you have two cubes, you could even split your class into two teams and make this into a relay game. The sky is the limit! Students will have fun doing word problems using these fun and engaging photo cubes.
While these word problem cards are designed to fit and be used in a photo cube, they are a great resource even without the cubes. I purchased my photo cubes at a teaching conference, but a link to purchase the cubes is provided within this resource.
