What are teachers saying about this 4th grade fractions packet?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“This was such a helpful resource. I did not like the lesson in our book so we used this one and it really helped my students understand the concept of repeated addition!” -Maghen S.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This is a great resource to supplement our math curriculum.”

-Lori F.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Excellent practice!!!  The repetition was perfect for my students!”  -Kelly H.

How can I use these repeated addition problems?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or remediation lesson
  • Small group math intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool
  • Test-prep

What type of problems can I expect to find in this multiplying fractions by a whole number packet?

  • In each problem, students are asked to multiply a fraction by a whole number.
  • They solve the problems first by rewriting them as a repeated addition problem.  For example- ⅖ x 3 becomes ⅖ + ⅖ + ⅖.  Students can use their knowledge of adding fractions with like denominators to find 6/5 as the answer.
  • Then students solve each problem using multiplication.  The repeated addition equation serves as a reminder that our denominator stays the same.  We just have 3 times as many pieces!  ⅖ x 3 = 6/5.
  • Students will be asked to rewrite improper fractions as mixed numbers.  If this gives your students trouble, Sally’s got a packet for you: Converting Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers Packet
  • Students will also be asked to write fractions in simplest form if they share any common factors.  Don’t worry, there’s a packet for that too:  Simplifying Fractions Packet
  • In this lesson, students will solve computation problems (numbers only), as well as word problems involving multiplying fractions by a whole number.

What does Sally’s “gradual release model” entail?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!

In addition to the deliberate scaffolding, this 4th grade fractions review packet includes an instructional guide jam-packed with teaching hacks and best practices.  There is also a “Misconceptions” section that allows you to be one step ahead of mistakes students are most likely to make.

These repeated addition problems are common core aligned to 4th grade standard 4.NF.3 (adding fractions with like denominators) & 4.NF.4 (multiplying fractions by a whole number).  This 4th grade fractions packet serves as a great bridge between these two standards!

This resource exceeded my expectations! It's clear that the creator put a lot of thought and effort into making it both engaging and easy to implement. The layout is clean, directions are student-friendly, and everything aligned perfectly with the standards I was targeting. My students were not only actively engaged, but they also showed real growth in their understanding. I especially appreciated the differentiation options—it made it easy to support all learners in my class. Whether you're a new teacher or a seasoned educator, this resource will save you time and elevate your instruction. I will definitely be returning to this seller for more!

Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
