Writing Informational Introductions & Conclusions
Share

Description

I use this packet to help students form several ways they can begin and end their informational essays. I believe in giving students some of my words and the words of other authors (mentors) to help them get their thoughts out.

I have duplicates of the Ways to Begin and Ways to End because it makes it easier for me to select these pages for 2 to a page printing. I print them 2 two a page, cut them apart and give them to students to glue in their notebooks (anchors). Based on your class, you may want to introduce one type of beginning/ending at a time.

I guide students in trying out the various endings and beginnings and they then choose the one that works best for their informational topic. The final pages are student examples of introductions and closing that my students have written.

You will notice that some of these mentor beginnings are inspired by picture books. NF picture books are a great resource.
