Hi everyone! I'm excited to share a bit about my journey as an educator. I've spent the past 38 years dedicated to helping students unlock the power of language and literacy.
For 30 years, I was a middle school ELA teacher, guiding young minds through the intricacies of reading, writing, and communication. It was an incredible experience to witness students discover their voices and develop a love for learning.
In the last 8 years, I've shifted my focus to reading intervention. This role has allowed me to support students who face challenges in reading and equip them with the tools they need to succeed. I'm deeply passionate about providing individualized instruction and watching students gain confidence as they make progress.
My years in education have provided me with a wealth of knowledge in curriculum development, effective teaching strategies, and meeting diverse learning needs. I'm thrilled to share my resources and insights with fellow educators through my TPT store.

Teaching style
I believe in the power of traditional teaching methods. In my classroom, you'll find a structured and systematic approach with a focus on explicit instruction and sequential learning. I guide students step-by-step, building a strong foundation of knowledge and skills. While I value new ideas and innovation, I also appreciate the tried-and-true methods that have helped generations of learners succeed.
Awards & shining teacher moments
My teaching style is rooted in the "old-school" methods that have stood the test of time – methods that earned me recognition as Building Level Teacher of the Year in 2001! Since then, I've consistently been recognized for my effectiveness, achieving a level 5 teacher rating for the past 8 years.
My own education history
I'm a military brat! Being an army brat help me develop structured teaching style and appreciation for proven methods. DoDEA schools have a reputation for their rigorous curriculum and emphasis on foundational skills.My education instilled a deep respect for traditional approaches.
My early childhood and elementary education degree provides a solid understanding of child development and the building blocks of learning. This background informs my work with struggling readers, as I can identify gaps in their foundational knowledge and tailor interventions accordingly.
I have multiple credits in English and history! This strong liberal arts background shines through in mypassion for literacy and my ability to connect reading with broader historical and cultural contexts.
My diverse educational experiences have clearly shaped me into a well-rounded and knowledgeable educator. I'm a testament to the power of a strong foundation in both pedagogy and subject matter!
Additional biographical information
I've dedicated nearly 40 years of my life to teaching middle school, and it's been an incredibly rewarding experience. During that same time, I've built a wonderful life with my husband. We have two grown children who are now married, and we're blessed with an adorable granddaughter. Our home is always lively, especially with our three Labrador Retrievers who bring us so much joy. When I'm not in the classroom, you'll often find me tending to my garden or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. My husband and I share a love for travel, and we cherish the memories we create on our adventures together.
