Description

This set of 24 task cards provides students with practice writing numerical expressions for a real-world situation. Most questions include one operation, but the last nine questions include more than one operation with grouping.

Works great as a quiz or test review or just for extra practice after the skill is introduced.

What's included?

  • 24 Task Cards (4 to a page)
  • Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer Key
  • 32- unique MATHO game boards

Task Cards: Use the cards for activities such as "scoot", a walkabout activity, or display them under the document camera and have students write their answers on mini whiteboards.

MATHO: Each student receives a game board & recording sheet. As a class, the teacher can print & display the task cards under the document camera. Students will work them independently, or in small groups, and cross of the answer on their game board. The first student to get 5 in a row, wins!

I used this resource as a warm-up to our math lesson. I taped the expressions around the room and the students walked around in partners solving them. They loved it! We learned about writing numerical expressions the day before so this was a great way to access my students level of understanding.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example, express the calculation “add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2” as 2 × (8 + 7). Recognize that 3 × (18932 + 921) is three times as large as 18932 + 921, without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.
