This was just what I needed to create some writing journals. Students can doodle on the border designs when they are stuck.

I used these with my seventh graders... After the EOGs are done, there is not a lot of teaching but I hate plugging in a movie. So, I had the students practice their writing skills by having them select staff members who did something for them throughout the year. They had to select one person and write specifically to them. Their thank you had to include something the person did that had an affect on them and then they had to explain how their life was made easier or safer because of what the person had done. The only other requirement was they had to sign it with their real name - standing behind what they said. Then they colored the stationary and I delivered the thank yous to the staff mailboxes after dismissal on the last day of school. It was awesome to see the people they appreciated - cafeteria staff and janitors, teachers, support staff, volunteers. It was great! And the recipients were so surprised and touched by the wonderful letters.
