How I Use This in My Classroom:
- On the first day of school, I set out pattern blocks for free exploration.
- A few days later, I introduce the animal mats during arrival time or centers. I share fun fact and they usually tell me many more that they know!
- I insert 2 double-sided cards into plastic sleeves:
- One side with full color and shape outlines (easiest)
- Other side with just the animal silhouette (more challenging)
- Students choose their level and use dry-erase markers to check off their work or sketch designs.
- For durability, I often print on cardstock and reuse for years!
