Learning to recognize repeating patterns and extending patterns are important early skills. What is the pattern young children learn early in the school year? ABABAB of course! This packet is exclusively for the ABABAB pattern.
There are two "Cut and Paste" activity sheets. The "Cut and Paste" sheets come to you in both color and black and white. The black and white sheets could be used for student practice and the color pages would make a nice center activity when laminated.
There are two student recording sheets. One of the recording sheets requires a bit of higher order thinking. Students use color as the medium to create the alternating ABABAB pattern. The children can make their own choices of color within each row of patterns avoiding the "cookie cutter" look with the end result. The other recording sheet will have the students draw pictures to continue the pattern in each row - this sheet comes in both color and black and white.
There is a page which requires the students to write some of the letters from the alphabet. The letters are the medium for the ABABAB pattern. The beginning and ending patterns are printed on pumpkins providing children with a visual cue.
There are two photo cards which are sized to fit pocket charts. One photo card is a picture of candy corn. The other is a picture of candied pumpkins. The teacher can cut out the photo cards and display them on a pocket chart to model the ABABAB pattern alternating the picture of the candy corn with the picture of the candied pumpkins.
