My teaching style continues to evolve as I constantly am learning new strategies and research based methods. I am a firm believer in hands on learning. I love to see the joy kids naturally have when they experiment, try new things, fail, try again, and eventually understand a concept or make connections. My students spend a lot of time sharing their learning and understanding with others,.
I have found much success using the "to, with and by" model of teaching, spending the most time on the "with" aspect (guiding) until I see students are ready to practice independently. I have learned over the years that a common mistake we make is sending kids off to work independently before they understand concepts.
Two of my strengths are helping students gain a deeper conceptual understanding in math and helping them develop a growth mindset. This growth mindset directly affects their confidence in their own ability to be a mathematician. When we can get them beyond the fear of failure and look at failure as a learning process, the learning soars!
