About the store
Ready-to-use SEL, health, and relationship skills lessons for upper elementary, middle school, and high school students. The mission is to help educators create safer, more empowered spaces for young people — one conversation at a time. Every resource in this store is built on the belief that social-emotional skills, personal safety, and the ability to communicate and set boundaries are not extras. They are essential. Teaching style

Arise Safety Education focuses on the interplay of experiential, active, and cooperative learning approaches, using movement and connection to build social and emotional competence in students. The belief is that these "soft" skills lead to greater resilience, academic success, and wellbeing in the long run.

My own education history

BA - Child and Youth Care Counseling (2015) B.Ed - Teaching Certification, minor in Environmental Education (2018) M.Ed - Health, Outdoor, and Physical Education (2024)

Additional biographical information

Arise Safety Education (and Arise Self-Defense) is founded by Jess Gordon. Jess is a certified teacher in Vancouver, BC, Canada, with a Master's degree in Health, Outdoor, and Physical Education. She has been teaching and developing safety, empowerment, and self-defense education since 2018, alongside being a Special Education teacher. She is also a certified Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor and an accredited Empowerment Self-Defense instructor. She runs in-person classes through Arise Self-Defense Vancouver. Before teaching, she worked in the child and youth work field for many years and has a BA in Child and Youth Care Counselling.
