Experience

Welcome to my store, which offers a vast collection of materials designed to make American Sign Language (ASL) accessible and engaging for learners of all ages. I'm Cynthia Long, and I bring over 28 years of education experience, specializing in American Sign Language (ASL). Throughout my career, I've worked extensively with sign language across all age groups, from young children to adults. As a nationally certified interpreter (RID NIC level) for the Deaf, I've had the privilege of interpreting in primary, secondary, and post-secondary classroom settings. This diverse experience has given me a deep understanding of how to effectively communicate and teach ASL to learners at different stages of their educational journey. I founded Sign Baby Sign LLC, a company that enhances early communication and fosters language development. I created ASL Teaching Resource from this initiative, committed to supporting the educational community while introducing ASL to young children and helping bridge the communication gap from an early age. My work doesn't stop at teaching; I'm also an author and presenter, sharing my knowledge and passion for ASL through various mediums, including podcasts, books, and online courses.

Teaching style

At ASL Teaching Resources, we believe in making ASL learning engaging and accessible for everyone. My teaching style is all about creating interactive and enjoyable learning experiences. We provide a rich variety of resources—printable worksheets, flashcards, and interactive videos—that cater to different learning styles. Whether you're a visual learner or someone who benefits from hands-on practice, we've got something for you. I'm particularly passionate about inclusive education. Our resources are committed to supporting non-verbal, hearing/deaf, and special needs students, ensuring they have the tools to communicate effectively. We strive to make ASL accessible and straightforward for educators, offering low-prep, ready-to-use materials that can seamlessly integrate into any curriculum. Understanding ASL is more than just learning a language; it's about appreciating the culture it represents. Our online course emphasizes practical applications and cultural integration, helping learners connect more deeply with the Deaf community.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Throughout my career, I've been honored with several accolades that highlight my dedication to ASL education. Being named Teacher of the Month was one of the most rewarding recognitions, a testament to my commitment to fostering inclusive and engaging learning environments. Achieving the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID NIC level) certification further solidified my qualifications and deepened my expertise in ASL and interpreting. Creating impactful educational programs has also been a significant part of my journey. Creating the ASL Preschool Curriculum (bit.ly/teaching-prek), a comprehensive program designed to introduce young children to ASL and Spanish, and the Sign Club (bit.ly/SignClub), a dynamic platform that brings ASL learning into schools and communities. Additionally, I developed the "Learn ASL in 60 Days" online video course, which offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to help educators and learners advance their ASL skills. Through these endeavors, I have participated in many summits and as a guest on many podcasts, contributing to the growing movement of integrating sign language into early childhood education and mainstream classrooms, empowering individuals to communicate more effectively and inclusively.

My own education history

My educational journey began with a strong foundation in Deaf Studies and ASL. I hold a Certificate in Deaf Studies and an Associate of Applied Science in American Sign Language. Achieving the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID NIC level) certification further solidified my qualifications and deepened my expertise in ASL and interpreting. These credentials equipped me with the technical skills to interpret and teach ASL and fueled my passion for creating accessible learning opportunities for all.

Additional biographical information

Outside of my professional achievements, I'm a dedicated advocate for the Deaf community and a lifelong learner. My commitment to ASL education and my role as a nationally certified interpreter, drives my desire to break down communication barriers and promote inclusivity. As an author, speaker, presenter, and educator, I'm constantly exploring new ways to share the beauty and utility of ASL with others.
