I have been a chemistry and biology teacher for 18 years in Illinois. My main focus had been chemistry, teaching it for the full 18, biology only about 5-6 of those years. I have taught all levels, from basic chemistry, to CP chem and AP chem.
Given the formulas for ionic compounds, students come up with the names. When filled into the chart or grid, a phrase about ionic compounds is made. Nice activity for writing compound names from formulas.
nice 2 day lab for AP chemistry and the topics of solutions chemistry. Students can make a crystal ornament and then practice their solutions calculations on the solution they have made. comes witha solutions guide to the math.
Take this set of rules and apply it to any plain black and white printed table and have your students create a color coded and labeled table that can use for class. Good for parts of the periodic table and following instructions. Can be used with one of my word document periodic tables.
good review chart of both lewis dot and VSEPR and the connection between them. Students use given formulas to find lewis dot information and them apply that to predict VSEPR geometries. Could be used as a lab with model kits.
good visual aid and flow chart for finding the empirical formula step by step. Also includes how to comvert an empirical formula to molecular given the molar mass.
good visual aid and flowchart that shows how to determine what type of intermolecular forces compounds show. Can also be used to compared strengths of IMFs.
group activity for students to practice writing formulas and naming ionic compounds. Students use ion pieces cut out to construct compounds. good hands on activity.
Nice packet that talks about origins of element names and symbols, and element sdistribution in the body. Gives kids a little bit of history and challenges them to find elements ont he table that fit certain descriptions.
nice consumer reports style antacid titration lab with set up, data to collect and lab questions. Done as a whole group, each station does one brand of antacid them the whole class compares the results.
This a reference sheet I put together for my AP chemistry classes to help them organize all the information dealing with gas, acid/base and solubility equilibrium. Makes a nice study guide for the topic.
Good worksheet in chart form that practices identifying organic functional groups in structural formulas. Given a structural formula, students classify the type of compound and can aslo try to name it using organic nomenclature.
Nice chart that has students predicting what ions will form from different elements. Its set up as a chart that includes, names, symbols, number of protons, electrons, number of electrons lost or gained and what noble gas it the element now like. Each problems gives different information, just enough to fill in the rest of the sheet. Answer key is included.
good worksheet for the first week of school for AP chemistry. reviews concepts they should already know coming into the course. Worksheet is a puzzle that has a phrase when completed correctly. Says GLAD YOU MAKE IT BACK TO APCHEM.
Good introductory activity to see if your students math skills are ready for chemistry. Tests on basic algebra, basic math skills, scientific notation, etc. and gives a rubric to aid students and teachers to gauge where their math proficiency is.
good worksheet for practicing writing ionic compound formulas from their names. Holiday themed puzzle sheet, so when completed correctly, had a very festive phrase in the answer key.
Graphing lab that compares oxide and chloride number, atomic radius, electronegativity, ionization energy and electron afinity to the first twenty elements. Instructions on how to set up the graphs and questions that go with the trends are provided.
