CI Teachers' Top 5 Exit Ticket slides

CI Teachers want to include references to people, movies, bands, and shows that interest our students-- but we can't always know who our students find interesting. Believe me when I say that I was literally the only person who was interested when I asked this question: "Did Daniel in our class play hockey this weekend, or did Antonio Banderas play hockey?" Crickets. Insert name of this month's youtube sensation instead, and suddenly everyone is listening. Can't keep up with popular culture?

About the store

Experience

Since 2012, Connie has observed, evaluated, and coached hundreds of World Language teachers who teach with Comprehensible Input. In addition to working with teachers, Connie trains principals, assistant principals, deans, and other school leaders on accurate scoring of teacher observations and evaluations. Prior to 2012, Connie taught French at the college level and K-12 for 20+ years.

Teaching style

CI/ TPRS Connie teaches and coaches others to teach using the best practices of Comprehensible Input (CI). Based on decades of research by Dr Stephen Krashen and Dr Bill Van Patten, CI employs strategies based on the brain science of how humans acquire languages for deep and long-lasting communicative competence. TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) engages students in fun, active language lessons. The American Council of Foreign Language Teachers (ACTFL) set the recommendation of using 90% target language in every world language classroom every day back in 2009. Both CI and TPRS support teachers to use 90%+ target language from day 1 of level 1 in a culturally responsive environment where all students succeed.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Connie is proud to have served as the President of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers (CCFLT) in 2018. In this role, she advocated for language teachers and students at the state, regional and national level by organizing conferences, leading the CCFLT board, and meeting with Congressional Representatives on Capitol Hill in conjunction with JNCL-NCLS National Day of Advocacy

My own education history

Connie holds a BA in French & Italian from Brigham Young University and an MA in French Literature from University of Washington.
