I am an enthusiastic ESOL endorsed, elementary teacher. This is my 5th year teaching and I have recently moved to teach on the Oregon coast. I have taught 4th grade and 5th grade.
I implement a lot of GLAD and ELL teaching strategies, as well as whole brain teaching and AVID. I believe it is essential for students to know "why" they are learning a skill just as much as we need to teach them "how" to do the skill. I believe this fosters an atmosphere of curiosity and ownership of their education. I also teach with a growth mindset, encouraging my students to see their education as something they are continuing to improve upon. They may not know something yet, but they will make progress if they continue to work hard. My students are taught that they are smart - not because they're born that way, but because they work hard, continually strive for success, learn from their mistakes, and make good choices.
I have yet to be honored as a classroom teacher, however I did receive the "best character" award from my coworkers! Does that count? ;)
I attended Western Oregon University for their education program and graduated Magna Cum Laude with my ESOL endorsement.
I grew up on the Oregon coast and absolutely love everything nature and art. In 2014, I moved across the state and taught in a culturally diverse and high poverty community, with the most amazing kids! However, I missed my family and the ocean terribly, so I moved back to teach on the coast. I love to learn and love sharing my gift of art with others.
