This project is best suited for upper-level Teaching as a Profession students. Students select a standard - created for TN standards, but can be altered to fit any state standard or curriculum - and create two formative and two summative assessments for that standard. By the end of this project, students will have created a portfolio of assessment examples, including explanations and reflections. A grading rubric is included.

Experience

I have 14 years of teaching experience in the secondary setting. I have taught US History, AP US History, World Geography, Sociology, Psychology, AP Psychology, State Dual Credit Psychology, and Teaching as a Profession.

Teaching style

My teaching style is relaxed but with high expectations. I believe in treating my students as the young adults they are but scaffolding independence and responsibility. Part of my job is to prepare them for life after high school, so I hold my students accountable for assignments, deadlines, and expected behaviors.

Additional biographical information

I have always known I was called to be a teacher. I enjoy balancing my professional life with my other full-time job: being a mom! I have three beautiful children who love to keep me busy. Our house is full of love and lots of laughter. My husband is also in education. He is a former History teacher and current Assistant Principal, as well as, Athletic Director.
