For Early Literacy - informational handout for parents/guardians/families - why it is important to allow children to look at picture in a book. So many adults want to cover the picture to see if the child knows the word - or they think it's cheating to look at a picture. Educate them why using the information in a picture is a good strategy in reading, and it's okay!

Teach students how to use these 3 principles to become respectful, resourceful and responsible citizens. Use on a Projector to introduce, and then print copies to have up in your classroom.
Help your students get their mind set for intentional, independent reading. Glue the sheets to a file folder and laminate. When students sit down for independent reading they put the books they WILL read on the green circle. Once they finish a book they can move it to the red circle. You can easily walk around and see their progress. At the end have students reflect on books they read or take a book from the red circle and share with a partner.
