This color composition activity is best used for the K & 1st grade music classroom. This activity can be adapted for used as a ELA syllables activity in the general ed classroom, as well. Students will color the shape with a color that has one or two syllables. Either in the shape or on the line below, students will then identify if the color has one or two syllables using numbers or "x." Students can perform their compositions to a buddy or to the class using body percussion or instruments.

This is one of my favorite activities for solidifying treble clef staff reading. It is great for a full class activity, small group assessment, or put it in a center. This worksheet has many uses! In my classroom, I use this worksheet for rhythm composition activities and notation activities. I have also used it for notation assessments. My teaching style is centered around student exploration. I have folders and folders of manipulatives. Some that I have purchased of TPT and some that I have adapted to fit my own personal needs. I use centers, partner work, and student challenges as opportunities for exploration.

My own education history
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from West Virginia University and I earned my Master's Degree in Music Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
