This lab allows students to observe Transverse and Longitudinal Waves with Slinkies. They will also complete an activity on Wavelength, Frequency, and Amplitude using the Slinky. Materials:-Slinky-3 pieces of stringo You will tie one piece of string each to the beginning, middle and end to the loops of the slinky. This will help you see the amplitude and end points.
This lab allows students to color all the pieces of a DNA strand. First they will assemble nucleotides and then form a DNA strand. They will show DNA replication by separating the strands they made and pairing the old strands with the complimentary base pairs. In this document you will find matching cards that cover Amoebas, Parameciums, Euglena and Volvoxes. The cards cover how they move, how they feed and the specialized structures that make them up. They can be laminated and used over and over. I was short on laminating sheets so I cut out the cards and glued them to notecards. This can be used as a lab, as an in class activity as part of stations, or a homework assignment. Students will be observing two rock sites and analyze the rock layers of each. They will be justifying why certain fossils are present.
Included is an EDITABLE cell phone policy. Your student and their parents/guardians will sign it. It includes proper times when students can be on their phones/devices and when they cannot. It also lays out detailed consequences. If you have devices in your classroom that students can use like Chrome books or iPads, you can add that in to the policy. I purchased a pocket holder that has numbers on it from Amazon and have it hanging on my filing cabinet with command hooks.
This can be used for a middle school or high school science class after learning about the stages of mitosis. It makes a great hands on activity to be done in groups. Students will also be creatively writing! I make groups no more than 4 people. This project will allow for a lot of creative freedom as there are many entry points for all students. Materials needed: meter sticks, string/yarn, balloons(2 per group), scissors In this inquiry lab, students will discover that, yes, air does have mass. For this activity, you can have students set up this with partners/small groups or you can just make one set up and do this as a demo. If you do this as a demo students can still complete the lab form. This can work during stations as well. This is a very inexpensive lab, especially if you just do this as a demo in front of the class.
This is a fun way to review the 4 Macromolecules: Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acids. Students will be divided into two teams. On a wall or board, the names of the 4 macromolecules will be posted. Each team will send one person up to the board and be given a flyswatter.
