About the store

I have 15 years experience in elementary education. I have worked in daycare setting, subbed, and been a para. I taught 1st grade self-contained for 2 years, 2nd grade self-contained and ELAR, 3rd grade math for 3 years, music and fine arts for pre-k-3rd for 1 year, Kindergarten for 3 years, 5th grade GT math for 1 year, and 4th grade math and science for the past 2 years. I have a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Child Development and Learning and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction. I have also been certified for a regional dyslexia program, as a GT teacher, and EB teacher and serve as the ESL grade level rep and UIL coordinator.

I used this ppt deck instead of the deck included in Saxon to review daily. The children can advance the show on a SmartBoard and like the colorful big pictures. Also there may be smaller pictures on the slide that we used to do a movement with the sound. (for example: on the acorn slide there is a squirrel, because we mimicked a squirrel and said "/a/, /a/, /a/" on that card. Also includes several prefix and suffix cards at the end that we used. Hope these are helpful...

Experience

Teaching style

I am a hands-on, always looking for a better way kind of teacher. Not to say I don't talk a lot or use printables (re: uughh worksheets) but I always feel there is a better way out there that I haven't found or tried yet. I'm looking to create interactivites out of traditional teaching "stuff" and I am looking to buy it too!!!

My own education history

I attended Austin Community College in pursuit of my Associates in Early Childhood Education, then decided, "what the hey? I might as well get my Bachelor's and go where the REAL money is!" (heh, heh, heh, I was naive...) I attended Angelo State University and received my B.S. in Interdisciplinary Child Development and Learning. I want my Master's, but also like to sleep at night, so we'll see... I looooove PD though, not even joking, I might quit the classroom thing and try to get on with a region center. Update: She got her Master's!
