Jen Bengel - Out of This World Literacy

I specialize in designing literacy resources for older students who need continued support with foundational reading skills. My materials are created to be age-appropriate, respectful, and engaging—never babyish. My goal is to empower striving readers by helping them build confidence, strengthen their skills, and experience success without shame. I believe every learner deserves the dignity of materials that honor where they are and support where they’re going. I've been an educator for 20 years, have 3 degrees, and LOVE helping teachers. My motto since beginning Out of This World Literacy in 2012 has always been... "Every student who is given a resource created by me is MY STUDENT too." This motto has helped guide me in creating only the highest quality, best practiced literacy resources for teachers and students. I specialize in creating literacy resources for students in upper grades who still need support with foundational skills like phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Using custom artwork and research-based strategies, I design materials that are age-respectful and engaging—never babyish. These resources meet students where they are, without resembling content made for much younger readers. The result is increased confidence, improved reading stamina, and meaningful progress toward reading goals. I have taught 6 years as a classroom teacher and 3 years as a reading specialist. Since 2012, I've been creating instructional lessons for teachers full time, as well as training teachers in literacy instruction. I also spend time as an independent consultant, modeling lessons and offering professional development in literacy instruction. I love my job and helping teachers!!
