This activity takes the typical “getting to know you” icebreakers and encourages students to think more critically of who they are.  “I am from” does not simply mean the place you live.  It encompasses anything and everything that makes up who you are. Students will end up creating a short presentation/ video/poem/collage that tells us so much more than just “I like, I don’t like etc”. This will do wonders for your classroom community. This activity is a great way to start the school year an

We all have pieces of our identities that can be categorized into groups.  Some groups are larger (parent, sibling, student, race, gender identity etc) and some are more specific and unique (foodie, pet lover, artist, athlete).  The important thing is understanding that all of these identities that make up who we are, are also the things that bind us to others.   This is a great back to school/ community building activity. Teaching style

As a performer myself, I have been studying dance and theatre since I was a child. It is the place I feel the most at home. I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of the theatre in education. Theatre teaches the human condition. It teaches you to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, To gain a new perspective, To think of the world outside your own life. Theatre promotes empathy… a skill we all need in this ever changing world. My goal for my students is to leave my class with more confidence, a sense of community, and the skills needed for creative problem solving. Good theatre can elicit change, and that is the same for good teaching. My hope is to elicit even some small change in each and every student and for them to feel like a part of something that can make a difference.

My own education history

BA in Theatre Education from Emerson College Master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Western New England College 30 years of dance training in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary.
