I use this format when a unit has lots of new words. This is also a great way to check individual students' understanding in a low risk way! Each student will get a sheet and cut it up (cut out enitre box, then in half vertically, then stack and cut into individual slips. Hence the 'work smart not hard' slogan in the instructions!) Use this document to help students record their understanding of Mitosis and plan out how they want to build their cookie model. I use sprinkle and toothpicks to make the chromosomes and spindle fibers. I've done this with clay also, but cookies are always a big hit =) The third page is a picture of a model I complete to give you and idea of what it could look like (and serve as a potential modification tool).

Print these onto card stock and cut out. I put out one set on each table and ask pairs to sort them into logical groups. A few students notice the different shapes and how each category has one of each, this is a hint you can give to modify the activity for those who need it.
