When I taught in Texas, I lived by the Texas TEKS! As a math specialist, I focused on the math TEKS. Now, I am in Colorado and breathing Common Core. Whew! I love that the standards are similar with just different wording.
I want each of my students to grow into having the same passion and enthusiasm for math that I do. I want that passion and enthusiasm to be contagious. I know that if I can help students believe in themselves, they will have more positive attitudes. We will have fun and learn at the same time. I use hands-on lessons and activities, focused direct instruction, and lots of practice and patience! I love the "A-ha" moment when a student discovers something for himself-especially when it's the same thing I've already "taught" him!
I was awarded the Eisenhower grant for mathematics teaching. Through this grant, I attended classes at Rice University. I have presented at National Council of Teachers of Mathematics conferences and done consulting work for school districts other than my own.
I feel very fortunate to have the opportunities that I have. Thank you to all of my wonderful co-workers in my past and present. I continue to learn and grow from each of you every day!
A huge thank you to Carmen of Love Teach and Learn for my rotating quote box, side banner, and leaderboard. :) Love, Teach, and Learn
