I have taught in Year 0 – 6 classrooms across Auckland and Waitakere cities since 2011. While enjoying all aspects of the classroom, my passion lies in the teaching of literacy. In 2018, I was granted an Advanced Classroom Expertise Teacher (ACET) award, from the Ministry of Education, in recognition of my literacy teaching practice and my dedicated work with children with additional needs.

Throughout my teaching career, I have held several leadership roles, including School Literacy Leader, Community of Learners In-School Leader, and Accelerated Learning in Literacy (ALL) Lead Teacher. I have also served as a mentor for Provisionally Registered Teachers and Student Teachers.
To deepen my knowledge of literacy education, in 2017 I completed my Masters of Education (First Class Honours), from The University of Auckland. My "Are New Zealand's Literacy Policies Still Relevant for the 21st Century?" thesis explored in-depth literacy education and policy.
To support primary school teachers across Aotearoa I founded Micaela Ann Publications in 2020, a small business focused on creating literacy resources.
In 2023, I completed the Associate MSL Training Course with the Institute for Multisensory Language Education, a professional training in dyslexia, focusing on a structured, systematic, cumulative, and diagnostic approach. I am completing the accreditation requirements as an Associate Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA).
