About the store

Experience

This is Emily's 5th year as an elementary special education teacher of children with intellectual disabilities.

Teaching style

"I am very structured in my teaching. We have routines and schedules we follow on a daily basis. Along with being extremely structured, I am flexible and show my students that flexibility is a strength. One of the first things I do is build rapport with my students. They will trust their teacher when they can enjoy their company. I teach to give my students responsibility and accountability for their work and their actions. I also like to give my students real-life experiences in order to prepare them for life after their primary school years." -Emily

My own education history

Emily has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Cross Categorical Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with an emphasis on Emotional Behavior Disorders. Emily continues to attend conferences, listen to professional development podcasts, and take classes in order to stay current in their practices and to learn new skills and strategies.

Additional biographical information

In the classroom, Emily focuses on the Common Core Essential Elements and the Life Centered Career Education Rating Scale with her students. The LCCE's main focus is daily-living, personal-social, and occupational guidance and preparation skills. Additionally, a main focus for her has been implementing Community-Based Instruction in the classroom. During this time, the students learn about a specific place of business in the community, visit that business, and are assessed afterward. The goal is for her students to become more independent and/or tolerate new places outside of school. Aside from her love of teaching and creating products on TpT, Emily enjoys spending her free time making new memories with her husband, daughter and friends/family. Interior Design and DIY projects are her secondary passion followed by attending sporting events, live shows, and trying new foods!
