I have been a faculty member at Amelia Earhart Elementary School for over six years. I currently teach 5th grade (which I LOVE) but have also had the joy of working in 1st and 3rd grade. I am the 5th-grade team leader for my school, a member of Provo School District’s Literacy Committee and a District Grade-Level Coordinator. I also enjoy mentoring interns and student teachers from Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University.
I teach using a simplistic and authentic approach. I encourage students to use every minute wisely and believe in fostering each student’s own natural curiosity. “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” Emerson I KNOW my students can do anything they set their mind to!
In 2016, I became a coordinating committee member of Brigham Young Universities Civic Education Initiative. This year I was awarded the Provo Way Award and Daily Herald Educator of the Week. I received the Golden Apple Award in 2015, the Crystal Apple Award in 2013, and became a CITES Associates member of the BYU-Public School Partnership in 2014. I will be speaking on at the UVU Forum on Engaged Reading’s 6th Annual For the Love of Reading Conference on October 6-7, 2016.
I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I also have a Utah Level 2 Teaching License, ESL Endorsement and am trained in DIBELS Next Assessments. *I have high hopes of obtaining National Board Certification sometime in the next few years!
I have three daughters whom I adore. My eldest two little women are in elementary school and my youngest just turned three years old! When not teaching I spend countless hours carpooling to ballet and swim team. I am an avid reader of all genres and enjoy date nights at the movie theatre. I love New York City and my dream is to someday live within walking distance of Broadway!
