This is an activity I created as a close read to find the argument in "Lose Yourself". We listened to the song and the students got really into it!

I created this to help document where we saw theme topics developing over the course of Night.

This was a fun activity I did with my remedial students to get them into breaking down an argument.

This is a method we are using to practice higher order thinking skills. Each student has a role. I give the students a color for each question and one of the students track the conversation in the circle after writing the names around the circle.

This is the answer sheet I created for the Gallery Walk for A Raisin in the Sun. There is no key, but I plan on using the rubric for Istep constructed response. (Istep is our standardized test in Indiana)

I created this gallery walk using pictures from Google images for my 10th grade remedial class. The purpose of this is to get these kids thinking at a higher level about the text and to give them a visual to connect with the characters. I am also uploading the answer sheet separately that will be free to download.The targets are : A. Describe how a character develops over the course of a text. B. Explain how a character helps to develop a theme topic. C. Analyze how the dynamics in the relation

This is a graphic organizer that I used with my 10th grade LAB students to teach the CLEAR method for constructed response.

There are 9 stations set up to align with nonfiction and vocabulary stations. I have taken the entire text and broken it into 9 parts. After the students read the entire text and discuss it, they then break off into groups and fill out the answer sheet. There are multiple step questions, text evidence questions, and constructed response questions.

Here are 6 stations built for a 12th grade advanced and regular students. The standards that are aligned to each station are Indiana Common Core. However, the font in some of them may not transfer over because they were fonts that I downloaded. This was a very fun activity that took 30-40 minutes for my advanced seniors and almost a full block for my 12 regulars and inclusion.

This is tied to Indiana Standards, but can also tie to Common Core THEME and TEXT EVIDENCE. I created this to work with my senior students while we work on theme. I made it two sided with the same organizer. On the front, we work together, gradually releasing them to do the different parts on a main text. Then, they flip it over and use it on their SSR book that I have them reading the first 20 minutes of class.

I created this to work with my students, along with a plot diagram, to brainstorm for writing a ghost story.

*This is meant to go along with the power point shared for "The Bike", but can also be used for any story with subplot.

This is a PowerPoint that I created based around a graphic organizer where the students would practice analyzing Gary Soto's text, "The Bike" and respond to higher order questions.

This can be used for group work, bell work, assessment, or small group. I use it for all three.

I created this chart for teaching 6th grade skills in being able to understand the meaning of figurative words and phrases.
