About the store

Experience

I strive to provide teachers with engaging resources that can be used in different ways so that all their classroom needs are met. I try making sure as many resources as possible are sub-friendly so that students don't miss a beat in the curriculum if you need to be out. You'll see that my resources reflect what I typically teach: Texas History, World History, US History (8th and 11th grades), APUSH, World Geography, and Medieval History to a mixed class of 9th-12th graders.

Teaching style

Dynamic!! Out of the textbook!!! I try not to repeat assignment/project types/styles too much per semester so my unit bundles reflect such a variety when possible. It is a challenge that keeps me on my toes and helps keep students engaged. I prefer using resources that can be implemented in a variety of ways (such as a primary source packet that can be divided into stations, set up as a gallery walk, used as a jigsaw, or that students can work through in pairs). When possible, I provide opportunities for students to demonstrate an understanding of the material academically and creatively with choices built in. I also LOVE teaching the history that textbooks don't go deeply into or include at all, and I always try to give students a glimpse of everyday life for what we are studying and make it relevant so they stay "hooked."

Awards & shining teacher moments

Some of my most rewarding moments in the classroom include students saying, "I didn't like history until you were my teacher," when the student who had been silent for months answered a question with college level eloquence, and when parents would tell me that the most they heard about their child's school day was what they learned in my class.

My own education history

I have both a Masters (US History) and Bachelors (Cum Laude in European History, Political Science, and Classics) from Tulane University. I received my teaching certification from McKendree University.

Additional biographical information

My passion for teaching and history is at times overwhelming, but in the best way. I am constantly thinking of new activities to bring into my classroom and new ways to challenge my students and myself. I love teaching, I love history, and I want to share activities my students have loved with other teachers.
