This can be used as an introductory lesson to the novel Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing. It introduces Shackleton, elements of sea-faring narrative, aspects of good leadership, and setting a purpose for reading. Best used with photos of the expedition and maps of Antarctica.
