Do your students need help choosing a "right fit" book? One strategy to help them is to use the 5 Finger Rule! Students open any book to any page and start reading. When they come to a word they don't know they put up a finger. The number of fingers they are holding up will help them determine if the book is a just right book, too easy, or too hard. My students use this daily!
