I love to teach writing! I have been training teachers for 15 years on guided writing methods to use with students. Many teachers express that they were never taught how to teach writing. It is a subject that often gets neglected due to teachers feeling poorly about their own abilities. Once teachers see that there is a way that works, they love it! Students should not be left sitting with a blank paper in front of them. Teachers must show them how to write through a guided process. While critics dislike formulas, we must all remember that formulas provide scaffolding that can be removed once students become confident, creative writers. My motto, "Don't tell them to write, teach them to write!"
