About the store
I worked as a paraprofessional in a Multiple Disabilities classroom for a year before beginning in the position of Math Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate) in grades 9-12. After a year in that role, I began shifting my focus to science and started teaching a section of Physical Science in addition to my math courses. I am now in my third year as a teacher, looking forward to many more!

Instagram Template Assignment

This is a great way to deepen student understanding of a topic! I like to use this after learning about the study of evolution. Students create an Instagram profile and post as if they were Charles Darwin. It is highly engaging (especially for students who are chronically online) and a fun way for students to demonstrate understanding. I even have students glue these into their interactive notebooks to add some color and fun to them!

Motion Maze (Velocity, Acceleration, and Momentum)

This maze allows students to practice solving problems involving velocity, acceleration, and momentum. A page for work is included, followed by the answer key. This is a fun way to help students practice without assigning a typical worksheet.

This bundle includes a Google Slides presentation with guided notes going along with it, a review game, a project, a lab and a test. It also includes the solar eclipse project (I used this with the 2024 solar eclipse, but it can be used at any time). This will give students a basic knowledge about astronomy and our place in the universe. Note: the bundle will continue to be expanded and will increase in price. Purchasing before 4/30/2024 allows you access to all current and future bundle item

This lab is a fun way to review physical and chemical properties and changes! This is the "Elephant Toothpaste" lab that my students are ALWAYS requesting. The day before the lab I assign the pre-lab as homework. This includes a review of the safety concerns, so it is super important that they do it. Mine are not allowed to participate until it is done. I review that, because this involves a chemical and a chemical reaction they MUST wear goggles. I also tell them that it is a skin irritan

This provides a review of the scientific method, physical changes, chemical changes, and mixtures. For best results, print the pages single sided on orange paper. As students answer the questions, they cut around the outside of the shape, fold down the tabs, and glue them together. When all tabs have been glued together, a dodecahedron will have been formed. This will look like a pumpkin when printed on orange paper. You can increase the resemblance by sticking a green or brown pipe cleaner

I use this while my students are learning calculations with pH. Most of these students have never used logarithms and struggle to plug the information into their calculators. I laminate these so students can use them while learning. They must know it for the quiz, but this helps make sure they learn how to use their calculators without adding the extra mental load of figuring it out on their own!

Two-Step Equation Jenga

This Jenga game is a great way to practice solving two step equations! Students pull out a block, then solve a problem with the matching color. They can each have a printout of the questions, or they can have one per group and solve on a whiteboard. This activity is made to be completed with Wooden Blocks Stacking Game, though it can be compatible with any game similar to Jenga. The linked game is already colored to work with the activity, but with a little extra prep another game can work.

I combine these mini-posters with the Mathematician of the Month/Moment sheet to give students experience researching with reliable sources and paraphrasing/summarizing information. Each month a new poster (or a few posters) can be hung in the classroom for students to use to complete the assignment. This is also ideal for use during Women's History Month!

These guided notes go along with the included slides to give students a basic introduction into astronomy. All blanks in the guided notes are indicated in the slides so it is easy to see what words should be written on the guided notes.

These mini posters are the perfect size to be printed on a half sheet of paper. They give a basic overview of the mathematician, allowing for assignments to be created based on researching the mathematicians. See my bundle for a copy of such an assignment! My personal favorite option is pairing the posters with the "Mathematician of the Month" assignment as an extra credit opportunity! This is the basic set of posters. There are currently 20 and more will continue to be added, leading to an

This lab is a fun way to supplement instruction on astronomy, the sun, heat, and energy. It requires students to create a solar oven, which can then be used to make s'mores. I like to make these at the end of my astronomy unit and save them to make s'mores on a nice day!

I use these as extra credit for my kids, but they can be used for anything! For my extra credit I have the kids research the molecule, tell me what it is best known for, and tell me a fun fact about it. The Google Slides are in the order of the specific month in which I use them, and both the molecule and the design is themed for the month. Note: March and April include an explanation of why that molecule was chosen for the respective month.

The Bonus File is a set of basic shapes that I use as manipulatives when teaching literal equations. I cut them out and laminate them. Then students can write each term in their equation on the manipulatives and physically move them around to solve. Laminating and using dry erase markers allows the manipulatives to be reused over and over again.

This project is a book that follows the guidelines of the Physical Science--Astronomy unit from Ohio's Learning Standards for Science. To complete the project, print the book on two sides (be sure to select "flip on short edge"). The pages can then be folded in half to create a book. Students should write information on each page. I like to give them the option to print pictures to include as well (or share the document and let them edit virtually then print). This is a good summation of th

The Electromagnetic Spectrum Virtual Exploration

This activity is great to use when there is a sub, state testing, or any other time you may need a fully virtual assignment! Students will use Google Arts and Culture to go on a virtual exploration of the entire range of the electromagnetic spectrum. There are 25 questions to go with this. If students focus they can easily do it in one 45 minute period, but if they get off task easily it will likely take longer. All answers come directly from the virtual exploration.

This project lets student be creative while researching the upcoming solar eclipse. If it is used in non-eclipse years or areas it can be edited to reflect that. It will have students create a visual representation of the solar eclipse (with 3 options of projects and the opportunity to create their own) and then write 2 paragraphs about what they are learning. Two separate rubrics are included; one for the visual representation and another for the written portion. This is listed as being a on

This is a great practice with Newton's Second Law (the F=ma formula). Students answer the 11 problems. As they go, they draw a line on the third page from the question number to the respective answer. Any letter that the line passes through gets added to the letter bank. When all problems have been completed and the letters have been collected, students unscramble the letters to finish the phrase "I < 3 Newton's Laws!"

This product includes 10 practice problems for solving systems of equations by elimination. It is low prep and has a variety of question difficulties. Just print out copies of the work document for all students. Only one copy of the questions is needed. The page can be cut in half, posting all 10 problems around the room. The problems are in order, so the previous answer is on top of the next page. For this reason the problems should not be posted in the same order that they are included i

Experience

I worked as a paraprofessional in a Multiple Disabilities classroom for a year before beginning in the position of Math Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate) in grades 9-12. After a year in that role, I began shifting my focus to science and started teaching a section of Physical Science in addition to my math courses. Teaching style

I use a hybrid teaching style, and attempt to change what we are doing a couple of times per class period to help maintain engagement! Students learn best when they begin and end class in the same way, with something different in the middle. For this reason, all of my classes begin with a warmup. We then go into the lesson for the day, which includes a minimum of one change to maintain engagement (ex. notes and an activity, a game and group practice problems, etc.). At least once a week students complete an exit ticket as a form of formative assessment before the end of class. About 3 minutes before the bell I have a timer that goes off to signal that it is time to finish up what students are doing, clean up materials, and get ready to leave.

My own education history

I graduated from The Ohio State University in December of 2020 with a degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Neuroscience. From there, I attended Ohio State's Alternative Resident Educator Institute to get my teaching license in Integrated Science 7-12, in 2021. I graduated with a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in October of 2023 from Western Governor's University. I am currently working towards a supplemental license in Mild to Moderate Special Education, and hope to finish in September of 2024!
