This is a fun assignment that I created, which I found students really getting in to. Have them choose a magazine theme of their interest (Be sure to screen the type of magazine that they choose as some students may try to push the envelope with their content). I use this in my desktop publishing unit in my Grade 11 and 12 Computer classes. Once the students are comfortable enough using Photoshop and Fireworks, the students will create a "mini magazine" using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Fireworks.

I created this art lesson to accompany an introduction to the microscope. You do not need a microscope to do this project. This is a tried and true favorite, and the students love learning about photomicrography and creating their art. These turn out fantastic, and you need few supplies. You can be flexible on the art materials you use, but I used watercolor pencils and sharpies. Students will need access to a computer. This will take about 3 to 4 class periods to complete.
