Partial Sums Algorithm

Created by
Cristi Guise
This resource was created to supplement the second grade CCSS Everyday Math Series. I use this handout to introduce the partial sums algorithm to my students’ parents. It includes a look at the process step by step with color-coded support, a video tutorial linked as a QR code, and a few practice problems to complete with the tutorial. I have also taught this lesson using the flipped classroom model and assigned this resource as homework the night before the lesson.

Dividing with the Standard Algorithm

Created by
WhiteBoard Math
This free resource from WhiteBoard Math uses elephants and a few truckloads of peanuts to divide with the standard algorithm.  We start by defining division terms: dividend, divisor, quotient, then demonstrates, step-by-step, dividing into a 4-digit dividend.  As with other WhiteBoard videos, the content starts simple then progresses towards more complex thinking.   This is our  free product because so many teachers are  looking for a good video on how to do “long division”.  Your students will

Solve Addition With Three or Four Addends

Students will find the sum of three or four 2-digit addends. Students will use the traditional algorithm to solve for the sum. Knowledge of regrouping will be applied to this concept and future concepts. How can we solve addition problems with three or four addends? Each Cohesion Education video has been designed by teachers for parents! All videos include: A Breakdown of the concept being taughtA How-To section in which the concept is modeled similar to the classroomA Student Misconceptions se

This video lesson is on Dividing Using Partial Quotients. In this lesson, students continue to explore the standard algorithm of long division by understanding the basic concept of division looking at partial quotients. This video is 6 minutes 22 seconds in length. This lesson is aligned to Lesson 4.8 in the Grade 4 Go Math This video can be used in the classroom or posted on a teacher's website to be viewed at home to reinforce instruction. Great for students to view while doing homework, stud

This video lesson is aligned to Lesson 3.3 in the Grade 4 Go Math on Investigating Area Models and Partial Products. In this lesson, students break factors of a multiplication problem apart by place value; then students create a diagram to organize the partial products and find their sum. Drawing diagrams is a valuable tool for students and has several benefits: They organize the information, and they visualize the relationship of the information. This model illustrates the Distributive Proper
