Measurement Fractions: Visual Equivalents for Cooking and Baking

This is a fun way to work on learning fractions while baking and cooking. By limiting the measuring cups available to students, they have to add and/or multiply fractions to achieve the target measurement. For example, give a child a quarter cup measuring cup (1/4 cup) and ask them to figure out how many scoops they would need to make a half cup (1/2 cup), three quarters cup (3/4 cup) or a full cup (1 cup) as needed based on ingredient quantities. Read about the Pittsburgh-based tradition within the project and use websites of local bakeries to develop price quotes for the client. Students must use multiplication and online tools to complete this activity. If the formatting is changed upon download, please contact me.
