Holiday Fun. Working with Percents solved with Proportions and Mental Shortcuts
Here is a fun PowerPoint activity with a holiday theme to use in December. In this lesson, students will be shopping for gifts, calculating sales commission, and determining the amount of weight lost by Santa! The lesson involves solving percentage problems with proportions. Next, you will be solving the same problem using mental math.
Handouts coincide with the presentation which enables the students to work along to complete the proportions and apply mental math skills.

Christmas Multiplication Challenge
This is a fun way to challenge students to master their multiplication facts. Students take on timed quiz for the last 12 days of school before the winter break. If students pass their test they get to put the corresponding ornament on their Christmas tree. At the end of the 12 days we have a celebration.
