This is a great end of unit project for rates, ratios and proportions. The student facing introduction is as follows; "You have found your favorite recipe for a dessert or appetizer and want to bring it to a class party. The problem is your recipe doesn’t serve enough people. Use proportions to increase the recipe to serve all the people needed. Make 1 serving per person. We have 15 people we need to serve." Restaurant inspired Math theme. Each student needs to earn fake cash and coins in order to be able to truly enjoy this project. My students LOVED this! I made them all line up outside my door, state their name and how many in their party, and then they were seated. I added a few snacks and fake wine to give them a true restaurant experience. Also, if you can decorate your classroom to look like a restaurant!
