This shape test is designed to gage student's abilities to form shapes within shapes.

Paper Airplane Math
Students make paper airplanes in this hands on STEM high interest activity. Students design, edit, revise and test their designs. They then enter two contests the distance challenge and the target challenge. Students measure how far their plane flies as well as find the area, perimeter and surface area of their planes. Teachers set up the area for the target challenge and students see if they can land their planes in it. Students also collect data and determine the mean and median.

Everyone likes to cheer for someone, and the traditional pennant has been a mainstay of “fandom” for more than a century. Tried, tested, and refined with GATE nonverbal ability 4th and 5th graders, this lesson should be a hit with 6th grade, 7th grade (or beyond) too!
In this lesson, students use geometry, number sense, and measurement skills to design their own pennants. The keyword is PRECISION in these designs.

Grades 1 -5 Tessellation Writing Assignment
This assignment may be used as an introduction to tessellations, a quick-check or a general paragraph writing assignment. It includes a writing rubric ranging from a 1 -4 Likert-Style Scale.
It has been tested with positive results in both my 2nd and 3rd grade general education and 1st through 5th grade talented and gifted classroom.

This is a great 3-dimensional math robot project for your students to work on at home. It comes with a project description letter that both the student and parent have to sign off on, rubric, sample test, and real test.

Play Dough Shape Partioning
This activity allows your students to partition shapes using playdough. They will learn to create these basic shapes (circle, square, rectangle), as well as how to cut them into halves and fourths. After using the playdough, give your students this worksheet to fill out to show how they partitioned the shape, and test their knowledge of halves vs. fourths!
