Welcome to this 4th, 5th and 6th-grade fun, multi-step, critical thinking, word problem math packet. I originally designed this for my 5th-grade classroom, but most of the pages can be used for gifted or high achieving students in both 4th and 6th grade. I wrote these word problems over a number of years, and a couple of them are actually ones that students wrote. Mission to Mars Math Project
Students work in teams to apply their math skills to plan a Journey to Mars. If the trip takes 6 months there, and 6 months home and you will stay for 6 months, how much food and water will your crew need? Use the "Important information" provided to figure it out! This is a tool for students to explain how they got their answer to a math problem- also included is a daily problem for a few days- you can edit this because it is a word document. I use this in math journals at centers. The daily problems are a third grade level- however you can edit and change them.

Think about eight special numbers from 2014 that were important to you in some way.
