Teaching middle school is certainly challenging. It's difficult to motivate those students that just aren't motivated by their own grades.
Our school year is divided into six 6 weeks periods. At the end of those periods, I hold a classroom raffle to raffle off bags of chips, candy, Free HW Passes and Drop the Lowest Daily Grade passes. The kids turn them in to me whenever they need a free pass.
I issue my students "raffle tickets" throughout the 6 weeks when they turn in HW on time, get an A

This is a chart I use every year. It is perfect for ESL observations, guided reading notes, anecdotal notes when monitoring independent centers, tracking behavior and pretty much anything else you can think of!
This is a Word doc so it is totally editable. All colors, fonts, etc. can be changed. The design is all set so it will be easy to envision the final product. I create one set per class, make several copies and use them tons of ways.

I was tired of spending money on buying name tags when I wanted to change seats around in my classroom. These easy to read name tags feature upper and lowercase letters, numbers 0-20 and a sport to type your students' names. I just use clear contact paper that I have cut down to attach them to my kindergarten tables and they leave no residue.
