This file contains the notes I took at the NCTM Conference in Chicago. I attended a presentation on Subtraction by Frances Stern. She taught various ways to subtract with regrouping. My most favorite to use in class is the number line and France's way on pages 6-7. The France way is what I refer to in my class as "Give, Give It Back"...It's SO MUCH EASIER TO TEACH AND UNDERSTAND than the Traditional U.S. way. I don't know where this has been all my life.
